| The
school is organised into three learning groups.
Learning
Land - Ages
2½ to 4
Learning
Land is a small, friendly Pre-school which offers excellent
facilities and a safe and secure environment for each child.
Learning Land teaches children in accordance with the Early
Learning Goals of the National Curriculum Foundation Level.
The daily programme covers the six key areas of a child's development
through structured activities. A qualified team provide a key-carer
system which ensures that each child receives pastoral care
of the highest quality.
The
children are taught positive attitudes and encouraged to make
good decisions and fulfil simple responsibilities.
Our merit guidelines are:
- Be
honest and polite
- Listen
and respond
- Be kind
- Take
time
- Take
care
All parents
would agree that a child's first steps in life are absolutely
crucial for his or her well-being.
Reception
Reading Readiness and the ABC's Workshop - Ages
5 to 6
The
school is proud of the Infant Department in which the children
work in a happy, well-ordered atmosphere where traditional attitudes
and values are considered important. Children achieve their
best when they are happy, motivated and feel secure, and where
individual support is at hand.
During
the summer term before their Reception Year, each child is given
a reading readiness and co-ordination development assessment.
This prepares staff and children for their launch into school
life in the Reading Readiness programme and the ABC's Workshop.
Through the course of the year, in the Reading Readiness Programme,
the children are introduced to 36 animal friends (e.g. Abi the
Antelope), which correspond to 36 phonetic sounds and positive
character traits, while learning about the world and relationships
around them. When a child scores over 80% on the Reading Readiness
test, they then get off to a flying start in the ABC's Workshop
where they are taught to read and write while continuing with
a balanced and broad programme of studies.
The
Learning Centres and beyond - "Education for Life"
-
Ages 7 to 18
The
development of each student academically, socially, and spiritually
is crucial, as this is the foundation upon which their future
is built. Some of the strengths of Locksley are its class sizes,
the individual help children receive, the high standards expected
for behaviour, and the happy and caring environment that is
provided.
The
peaceful, airy, and bright Learning Centres create the perfect
learning environment. Learning Centre Supervisors teach the
core curriculum subjects whilst specialist teachers take lessons
such as P.E., Music, I.T., Science, and German.
Outings
give a wider understanding of our heritage and the world in
which we live. Each year group has at least one outing per term.
Locksley
Christian School provides academic training in an atmosphere
that enriches lives, builds character, and enables each child
to develop as an individual, while appreciating the needs of
others.
